Selling Books On Amazon And How Much Money You Can Actually Make.
Here is a good question to ask before venturing into any business. You might be thinking about taking another turn in your life, you might be thinking about quitting your job and you wouldn’t want to get into a business venture that won’t even bring you the kind of cash you were getting from your previous employer. Or maybe you are looking out for a side grind to earn some extra income.
Before I go any further, I want you to know you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. If anyone ever makes money from doing anything, you are not an exception. And the best thing to know is “success leaves clues.”
You can make 6 -7 figures selling books on Amazon because someone is doing it as you read this post.
In this post, I am going to make you see how possible it is to make money selling books on Amazon. How you can start going about selling books on Amazon. How you can make the kind of income you want even faster.
And of prime importance, what you will become for taking this opportunity.
Here is what I mean;
It is very important not to just look at the money we make or we can make. Do you know you can lose it all in just a second? It will be better to look at what you become on the journey of making money. The skills you learn, the value you bring and the help you can provide to your family, your friends and even a stranger you have never met.
Maybe the question should have rather been, what can you become selling books on Amazon?
Well, that was just a little advice,
Let’s go back to the actual question which is “how much money can you make selling books on Amazon”? or even if you should even sell books on Amazon.
As I indicated earlier above, you can make as much money selling used books on Amazon than you can even imagine. It doesn’t matter of what age you are or where you are in the world, it is still possible for you to make money selling books.
I have seen successes in the Amazon book business I never thought would have been possible. Some, even plan to systemize the process, transform it and even sell the whole business. Also, a friend of mine is just building the book business to pass it on to his kids when they reach of age.
Do you know Amazon started with just selling books online? Do you see where the company is today? Does this answer your question on how much you can make selling books on Amazon or anywhere else?
Just looking at Amazon which started just by selling books and where it is today, is the best answer to the question. Amazon today is an example of how much you can make selling books online but it all depends on you.
How much do you actually want to make selling books on Amazon?
Do you just want some extra bucks to meet up with your day to day activities? Is it for securing the future of your family? Are you just looking for some cash to take a long-awaited dream vacation? Do you just want to take back your life from the corporate world, to put an end to working 9-5 for someone else? Or do you want to start a multimillion empire?
An answer to any of the above questions is what you should start with and what will push you to work every day to achieve what you want.
I will show you three options you can choose from and how much money you can make. This is just from what I have experienced in the bookselling business. You can do better or even fail to achieve the same results.
To begin with;
The Individual or Private seller.
This is just an individual looking out for some extra income to meet up the day to day demands of life. Their goal is to remain small and will be contented if the revenue generated from the business can just meet all their immediate needs.
There are a lot of people who will be very happy to put food on the table, pay all their bills and mortgage. After all, being able to save a little for rainy days.
With such individuals even you bring in a life-changing opportunity, they will simply say “Sorry, we are happy where we are”
The reason, they need some extra income is just probably the income from their current job or business can’t meet their needs and are looking for something that can add a little more to meet up with all their needs.
They might not be willing to give up their daily job as all they need is a support income.
If this is the case, all you need is just to sell a few books a month to raise some supporting income every month.
Let’s take a $1000 USD extra income every month scenario. When I talk about $1000USD, I mean pure profit from selling books on Amazon. In this case, you must be able to sell 100 books every month on Amazon.
A hundred books purchased on average $10 per book and sold on average $30 per book to get an estimated profit of $1000USD, after all costs deducted including what Amazon will charge you for selling books on Amazon will set you on track.
In other to sell 100 books every month, you must be able to purchase or source on average 10 – 15 books a day. This can easily be done within an hour sourcing online a day or 2 hours per day physically sourcing for your inventory.
What this means is you should be able to send in on average 375 books to Amazon every month to make at least $1000 USD per month on a constant and maintaining a 100 books sold per month.
Here is a typical DIY private seller;
- 1-hour everyday sourcing online
- Takes 2-3 hours sourcing every weekend
- 30 minutes to list at least 12 books for sale every day
- Another 30 minutes to re-price existing listing every day
- 2 hours to prepare and ship at least 72 books to amazon at the end of the week
- 1 hour to donate unworthy books from physical sourcing
- 1 hour a week building connections with other sources.
- 3 hours for research and problem solving every week
- 1 hour every week to meet other small sellers to discuss the market over a cup of coffee and share ideas.
Total of about 18 hours every week.
The Medium Or Average Size Seller
The medium size seller is the seller making around 4 – 5 figures a month in profit selling books on Amazon or any other platform. At this point, selling books can be a full-time job for you and you are spending some reasonable amount of time sourcing books both online and offline. You must be able to use multiple sources for inventory.
It is said an average family in the USA should be able to earn above $51,000 USD annually which means $4250USD a month. So from our above scenario, to be able to make $4250USD pure profit a month selling books then you should be able to sell at least 400 books a month with an average sales price of $30 with a cost price per book on average $10.
Medium size booksellers are able to source over 50-100 books a day through their multiple sourcing channels.
You must be able to have a standby operation. This can be easily achieved with some outside help or hiring some few workers to run the whole operation. You can hire your kids or wife to assist you with your operation. You can as well hire a virtual assistant for your online sourcing.
Here is a typical DIY medium seller;
- Takes 4-6 hours sourcing every day and picking up books
- 2 hours to list at least 75 books for sale every day
- Another 1 hour to re-price existing listing every day
- 3 hours to prepare and ship at least 250 books to amazon at the end of the week
- 1 hour to donate unworthy books
- 3 hours a week building connections with other sources.
- 4 hours for research and problem solving every week
- 2 hours every week to meet other medium sellers to discuss the market over a cup of coffee and share ideas.
Total of about 61 hours a week on your book business.
NB: Your house will literally be transformed into a library.
If you are able to get assistance or employ 1 or 2 individuals to take some portions of the operation, you will be able to increase productivity and eventually sales.
Mega sellers
These are sellers with huge operations and huge facilities with at least 10 employees making from 5-6 figures a month in pure profits and even 7 figures.
Mega sellers send in thousands of books every month to Amazon and other sales platforms they use. Only huge operations can make this happen. They are able to sell thousands of books every month from various platforms.
For a mega-seller to get over a $100K pure profit a month using our example, then about 10,000 books need to be sold on average $30 per sale and $10 on average cost per book.
Mega sellers have the ability to get books even cheaper which is an added advantage for more sales revenue. Mega sellers carry thousands of copies of a single book and stocking the most profitable books and best sellers.
EndNote
